The MET Exhibit China Through The Looking Glass

As you all know, moncler outlet online from last weeks blog story, moncler coat I had a wonderful time with my son during our recent trip to NYC. As I mentioned then one of the highlights of the trip for me,moncler online shop was to see the “China Through The Looking Glass” exhibit at the Met. This exhibit which opened in May and runs until August 16th,moncler beanie is huge and it was unfortunately very difficult to see all of it,moncler jacke let alone write about it especially when I was walking it with an 18 year old young man who is interested in fashion but not to this level. He was my photographer for the trip and even though he tried, moncler gamme bleu it was very difficult to get good quality pictures inside because of the different levels of lighting and with it being so dark inside in some areas. Nevertheless I wanted to share our pictures with you and tell you if you are going to be in NYC this summer make sure you visit this exhibit as it is well worth seeing especially close up and in person.

The show is named after Lewis Carroll’s novel and it focuses on the wide-reaching influence that Chinese art and film have had on western fashion. The show is not about China according to Andrew Bolton, moncler femme the curator at the Met,moncler bambino its about the collective fantasy of China and how it is represented in western culture, mens moncler jacket primarily fashion and cinema. This exhibit comprises of over 140 high-fashion pieces from Dior, moncler womens jacket Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent and more – all placed alongside their one of a kind Chinese inspirations.

Over the years, many designers have based entire collections on Chinese culture, including YSL’s fall/winter 1977 couture collection and his launch of the “Opium” fragrance. Another example is Valentino’s all red Shanghai collection from 2013, both of which are partly displayed at this exhibit. There are also some beautiful intricate Beijing opera and kabuki inspired pieces by Maison Martin Margiela and John Galliano for Dior on display in a pool of water, which I thought were so amazing.

Going even further back, Chinese export silks and wallpapers were a source of inspiration for Cristobal Balenciaga throughout the 50’s and 60’s. Also blue and white porcelain pieces have been used in many designer works including Rodarte, Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel and Roberto Cavalli some of which are on display as well.

Below you can see some of our photos and a video about the exhibit. As I said our photos do not do justice to this exhibit and how beautiful the pieces are but at least you can get an idea of what we experienced.

I hope you enjoy them and I would love to know if anyone else has seen this exhibit?

  1. Love this dress!!! I bought the purple flower version. To all the people complaining about the fit: these are NOT American or UK sizes! Use the chart and take your measurements and it will be perfect. Love the material, the length, an the bias cut for stretch. I went back and ordered a different color, in fact.

  2. So I was a little wary about ordering this dress because of the mixed designs and sizing charts, but I took a chance on it because of the price. I ordered the smart black dress in an XXL, and it fits like a glove. I love it!! Usually when I order from sellers based in China I have to order two, or even three sizes, up but since the XXL was the largest size I went with it. I typically wear a 16/18 or 16w in dresses and my measurements are 45/37/45, just so you have a reference. The style is flattering and classy and the material has a bit of stretch so it is comfortable too.The only problem I encountered was that the included belt was waaaay small. It was definitely not the size of the dress. I contacted the seller about the size issue and they responded very promptly and gave me a partial refund. In summary, if you are on the fence about this dress, give it a go! It’s the perfect little black dress, and you just can’t beat the price.

  3. I love it 0CommentWas this review helpful to you?YesNoSending feedback…Thank you for your feedback.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. It is too tight to wear out sadly. The belt at the waist comes off and is 2 sizes smaller then the actual dress so it is completely pointless. The zipper isnt strong at all and it difficult to zipper. The color bleeds horrible when you wash it for the first 2 times. So wash alone. I bought this hoping I’d be able to wear it out but because of how stretchy the material is and how tight, I just look like a lumpy log and the worst part is I’m not fat at all.

  4. It was too big in some areas and too small in others. Also a bit too long on me to be flattering. I can see the right body type would look really good, expecially with a petticoat

  5. Love this dress! Dress it up or down, it’s great. I’m 5’1 and a bit pear shaped, usually wear an 8, the M/L fit perfect. I’m giving it 4 stars cuz it shows any rolls or bumps, so you definitely need spanx. Great dress overallmoncler trainers

  6. Bought for my daughter’s 5th birthday, she and her 6-year-old sister love it so much I’m buying a second one so they can each have their own. Both my daughters are tall – my 5 year old is 80th percentile for her age and my 6 year old is probably closer to 90th or more. The intermediate size (6-8) fits both of them very well. Looks precious on them. I will keep this tutu dress in mind for other little girl’s birthday presents.Moncler Usa

  7. Absolutely love this dress! I’m 5′ 1" and weigh 110 and ordered the small and it fits perfectly. It’s not too tight in the skirt part and the length is right at/ a little above my knees so it’s appropriate for work. Great purchase! 0CommentWas this review helpful to you?YesNoSending feedback…Thank you for your feedback.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. However I didn’t think it was exactly business attire, at least not for me. Maybe depending on your office atmosphere, not that it wasn’t appropriate just that it seemed too dressy, more for a formal club or party, or nice evening out. I did inquire about the length on me (5′ 7"), which turned out to be just ok work-appropriate wise, a few inches above my knee; but the way the bottom hugged my lower thighs and the lower half material being almost silky with no give, made it slowly slide up as I walked. I did order a small but it fit perfectly everywhere else so if I went a size up it would’ve been too big around the waist and hips, where it already had a looser bunched up look. Overall a nice dress, loved the pattern and zippered top, comfortable material up top; and maybe at another time, for a different occasion I would’ve kept it, but prioritizing my purchases right now.moncler kinder

  8. I bought this exact dress in black about a year ago and LOVED it! So much so, that I have been checking back throughout the year to see if they’d ever make it in any colors. Then I saw it – red & blue! THRILLED can’t even describe how I felt when I saw it in these colors. So here’s the good: The red is an actual strawberry true red and not the wine color red you see in the picture. The blue is a beautiful royal blue. Both fit as did the black one I bought last year. I’m 5’7, a size 10, and 162 lbs. and bought these dresses in a Large (The sizing runs small even though the material is extremely soft and stretchy…)Here’s the bad: Both the black dress I bought a year ago, and the red dress I just got, have a nude colored lining. So for your average caucasian skin color, these two dresses are perfect for that sexy look that blends nicely with your skin tone under the lace. The blue however has a bright white lining! Literally powder, hospital, almost glow-in-the-dark white! So when you put it on, it’s beaming from under the lace and looks very unnatural. Alas, the blue is being returned… But VERY happy with the black and red.(If my review was helpful, let me know by clicking "yes" at the end of my review!)Moncler Beanie
