History Of The Leather Jacket

Earlier this week I showed you a look wearing my favorite leather jacket.  I wanted to continue writing a bit more about leather jackets and a brief history on them.  Also I wanted to share with you some of my favorite leather jacket street style looks and some great leather jacket deals from Nordstrom.

Here are some interesting facts on the history of leather jackets:

  • In early 1900’s brown leather flight jackets were worn by aviators and members of military.
  • During WWII they became known as the “Bomber Jacket”.
  • In 1928 Irving Schott designed the first motorcycle jacket and sold it for $5.50 (that’s right) at a Harley Davidson store in NYC.
  • In 1953 the leather motorcycle jacket reached iconic status after Marlon Brando wore it in the movie “The Wild One”.
  • Soon after James Dean followed by wearing his famous leather jacket in “Rebel Without A Cause” making it the ultimate symbol of cool.
  • In 1960’s this cool factor continued with Steve McQueen wearing his leather jacket with his famous aviator sunglasses.
  • “The Fonz” from Happy Days continued the tradition in 1970’s with wearing his famous leather jacket that is now on display at Smithsonian Institute.
  • The 80’s brought the punk rock look with Blondie and Billy Idol decorating their leather jackets with studs and safety pins.

Today leather jackets are included in all the fashion shows and stores at many different price points and I think I can easily say that almost every woman and man will have at least one leather jacket in their life time.

Below I have picked some of my favorite street style looks showing how different women wear leather jackets.  I have also selected some of my favorite leather jackets from Nordstrom that are on sale right now in case you are looking for a leather jacket.

  1. It’s perfect! The material has a slight stretch too it so it’s a comfortable fit even when you sit. It’s hard for me as a larger girl to find a dress that compliments my body and this certainly does it i think. Nothing but compliments so far. As for the length it’s a bit below my knees.

  2. I bought this dress for a special event. I did not like the bow in front. It seemed to bulge rather than to lie flat, so I removed it which was not difficult to do. The material is nice and the dressed seemed to be sized appropriately.

  3. This dress was so incredibly small that the top doesn’t span the width of my bosom so I have to wear a t-shirt underneath it if I’m to wear it. (I’m a B cup, so it’s not as if I have a large chest.) The dress in general was so tiny that there is absolutely no way anyone could wear it as a dress—it can only be worn as a makeshift flowy top. When I attempted to return it, the seller told me that to ship it back to China would cost me a significant sum and suggested instead that I keep the clothing and be refunded a portion of the amount that I paid. After a little back and forth, I was refunded half of the amount that I spent.

  4. I love this dress, it is very comfortable and looks very nice, received a lot of compliments. I am pear shape, very heavy on the bottom and small on top, I would say difference between my top and bottom about 2 sizes top size 12 (38C), bottom 16, 5’9" tall, purchased XL. This dress is very stretchy, probably would fit into 1 size smaller, it is a little bit loose on top, but not very noticeable, falls below knees, that a plus for me. I purchased belt for it, as waist line on the dress is a little bit higher than my waist.

  5. I’m a 38DD with a 33 inch waist and a large fits perfectly. There is some stretch, but it holds its shape. And at 5′ 6" it hits right below the knee. The fabric is not the greatest to the touch. It’s more durable than luxurious. Excellent for a party girl who maybe spills on herself from time to time. Fabric aside, I love it and bought it in two colors.

  6. This is an adorable dress. It looked and fit just the way it was described. The quality was extremely good. It did not look like a costume, but like a real dress. I ordered a size larger than I usually take just to be careful since I did not have time for a return. I think I could have used the smaller size. The sizing is very accurate. I also worried about it being too short (I am 5’3" tall), however the fringe kept me feeling comfortable. The detailing of this dress is on the back as well as in the front. This gave it a look of real quality. I received several compliments the night I wore it.

  7. She looks great in the dress, or should i say the dress has the benefit of laying on top of beauty. She says it is extremely comfortable and light, non constricting and flowing. Just a note cleavage is needed to pull this off and take it to next level so if youre lacking in the packing. Get yourself a padded push up bra. Go out and shine.moncler outlet
